CALENDAR OF SPECIAL OUTBACK EVENTS FOR 2008:

What's new at William Creek and surrounds this year!

20th June onwards for 8 weeks:-

"The Longest Taxi Fare" re-enactment This follows the route taken in the 1930s by Charlie Heard, a taxi driver who, in an old Essex cab, drove 3 distinguished ladies from Geelong via Port Fairy to Adelaide then on to Darwin through outback Australia. It involved following old dirt tracks, driving over sand dunes and navigating with a trusty compass.

Five grand children of Charlie Heard, lead by Steve Heard undertake this re-enactment. They departed Geelong on the 20th of June 2008, exactly 78 years since their grand father drove this historic taxi fare. They will be coming through Coober Pedy and Oodnadatta along the way on their journey north to Darwin.
