WILLIAM CREEK:

Above: The Oodnadatta Track not far from William Creek, South Australia. July 2009

William Creek is also the closest settlement to Lake Eyre North.

Lake Eyre is the world's largest salt lake and Australia's largest inland lake.

  • If you ever wanted to really know what outback life is all about then you must visit William Creek.  It is about two hours from Coober Pedy on the Oodnadatta Track or 40 minutes by Wrightsair aircraft with a population of 16, it is Australia's smallest town.

  • Click here for the history of William Creek and for William Creek Pub photos.

WILLIAM CREEK LOCAL FLIGHT:

  • As you climb away from the runway you first notice the remoteness of the Australian outback.
  • From this unique vantage point you see the Oodnadatta Track cutting its way through the sand dunes with the Old Ghan railway line running alongside it.
  • Nothing much has changed in the last 100 years - you are in the real Australian outback!
  • This is a view that few people fully appreciate until they see it for the first time from the air. In the distance to the east you may see the shimmering white of Lake Eyre, to the west the Oodnadatta Track meets the Coober Pedy road and the Anna Creek Cattle Station homestead soon comes into view.
  • Coming into land a priceless photo opportunity arises as the aircraft passes by the William Creek Hotel.
  • Our pilots will impress you with their comprehensive knowledge of the immediate area.
  • Price: $50pp

  • More detailed scenic flights trips from William Creek out to Lake Eyre, Anna Creek Station, Dalhousie Springs, Oodnadatta, The Painted Desert, The Breakaways, Birdsville, Flinders Ranges and Innaminka are available.
